National Autism Association Announces New Board Chair and Vice-Chair

The National Autism Association is happy to announce that incoming Board Chair Scott Bono and Vice-Chair Lori McIlwain will take over for Claire Bothwell, whose term as board chair was completed last month. The chair position governs NAA’s board of directors for a period of two years.

We are very proud of NAA’s accomplishments under the direction of Claire, including increased growth in chapter development, grant acquisition, research funding, and outreach to families in need, both financially and through marital counseling. Claire will remain an integral part of our organization as she continues her work on our board of directors.

A founding board member of NAA, Scott Bono brings 18 years of experience as both the father of a child diagnosed with autism, and as a vocal advocate for all children affected by autism spectrum disorders. In addition to broadening the reach of our family-oriented programs, Scott will also focus on strengthening NAA’s legislative impact through our chapters, greater outreach to the community and the push for cutting edge research and treatments.

Lori McIlwain is a co-founder of NAA and the parent of a son diagnosed with autism. Her career in advertising and public relations and her creative talents have contributed enormously to our organization’s growth and visibility within the autism community. In addition to her duties in the vice-chair position, Lori will maintain her focus on the critical services she has created, our Helping Hand and Family First programs.

All of us with NAA thank Claire for her hard work as our chairperson, and look forward to continuing our efforts under the leadership of Scott and Lori. Other board members are Laura Bono, Leslie Davidson, Roe Dubrowsky, Becky Grant-Widen, Deirdre Imus, Jim Moody, Lyn Redwood, Adrienne Rousseau, and Katie Wright. The officers are Rita Shreffler, Wendy Fournier, Ann Brasher, Kelly Vanicek, and Lori Brozek.

As always, we are grateful for the support of the countless families whose dedication and love for their children inspires us daily in seeking the best possible future for all those affected by autism. Together, we can make a difference.

For information on forming an NAA chapter in your area, email our Chapter Development Director Karen Mc Donough at naa-chicago@sbcglobal.net.  To volunteer for a fundraiser or legislative campaigns, write to naa@nationalautism.org.
