Carol Stock Kranowitz

Carol Stock Kranowitz is the author of The Out-of-Sync Child, the 1998 bestseller that demystifies Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). Its sequel, The Out-of-Sync Child Has Fun, was published in 2003. She also wrote 101 Activities for Kids in Tight Spaces and co-authored a preschool screening to identify young children with SPD.

As a music, movement and drama teacher for 25 years, Carol developed a purposeful curriculum that integrates sensory-motor activities into the preschool day. As a school consultant, she helps teachers sharpen their abilities to understand students’ atypical behavior and make accommodations to strengthen all children’s healthy development.

Carol travels widely, addressing parents, teachers, and professionals about how sensory processing disorders in children play out at home and school – and how appropriate sensory-motor activities may help them become more regulated and competent in their occupation of childhood.

Carol received a B.A. in English from Barnard College and an M.A. in Education & Human Development from The George Washington University. She lives in Bethesda, Maryland. She has two married sons and three grandchildren.
